Post Your 2013 Rhysling-Eligible Poems

It is an honor to have been appointed the 2013 Rhysling Chair. The Rhysling Poetry Award recognizes the best science fiction and fantasy poetry in the world. It is officiated by the Science Fiction Poetry Association (SFPA).

Members and nonmembers are eligible for the award, but only members can nominate (January 1-February 15, 2013) the poems. Nominated poems will be published in the 2012 Rhysling Anthology, for which I am the editor, and the membership will vote on those poems for the winners. There are two categories: the short poem (under 50 lines or under 500 words for prose poems) and the long poem (50 lines or more; over 500-word prose poems). Please visit the SFPA website for more details.

As a service provided by this Chair to improve the visibility of your poems to the nominating membership, I encourage you to post 1-3 short poems and/or 1 long poem in the appropriate pages under this tab* AND weblinks to your complete list of Rhysling-eligible poems. SFPA members will have the benefit of having their file of poems uploaded to the SFPA website. Nonmembers can use their private websites. We understand that it is difficult to pick such few poems to represent your contributions, but at least, in principle, the entire membership can conveniently read something from everyone who wants their work considered. Further reading to get a better feel of those published works is still encouraged via the links you will provide.

*See pull down menu in navigation bar above

Posted poems will be verified to be Rhysling-eligible before they are approved. The work will be posted in the order that it is received.

Post your poem(s) in the correct page. Begin with your name at the top, followed by the poems. Beneath each poem, cite the venue it is published in as well as the month and year in parentheses, e.g., (“My Poem,” The Journal of Speculative Poetry, March 2012). If this is an online publication, then hot link the venue (check to make sure it functions); if this is a print publication, then include contact information of the publisher so I can easily verify it (phone numbers or emails only). Be sure you hot-link to where we can read the rest of your work at the bottom of the page (preferably in a single downloadable document with similar information noted therein). Then contact me at rhysling AT sfpoetry DOT com (of course, amend the address accordingly) telling me you have posted your poem(s). Please include your actual name and pen name (if different). In the subject line, put Rhysling Poems_Your Name.

I plan to notify CRWROPPS, a writers resource, as well as other places to alert SFPA members and other poets of this listing periodically.
